Privacy Policy

Last updated:

Devayiti is a question-and-answer community for Haitian developers. This policy explains what information we collect when you use the site, what we do with it, and the choices you have. We have tried to keep it short and accurate.

1. Information we collect

  • Account information: your email address, username, display name, and password. Passwords are stored only as a secure hash; we cannot read them.
  • Profile information you choose to add: bio, location, country, links, avatar, GitHub username, and mentorship details.
  • What you post and do on the site: questions, answers, comments, articles, votes, bookmarks, followed tags, flags, chat messages, job applications (cover note and résumé link), event registrations, course progress, code submitted to coding challenges, and community memberships.
  • Technical information: your IP address, used to limit abuse (for example, too many login attempts) and recorded alongside moderation and security actions; and the cookie that keeps you signed in.

2. How we use it

  • To run the site: create your account, show your contributions, send verification, password-reset and notification emails, and deliver chat messages.
  • To keep the community safe: detect spam and abuse, rate-limit requests, and review flagged content.
  • To improve search and help: build search indexes and, when AI features are enabled, generate diagnoses, translations and answer drafts.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising profiles.

3. What is public

Questions, answers, comments, articles, your username, display name, reputation, badges and the profile details you add are public. Anyone can see them, and search engines such as Google may index them.

Your email address is never shown publicly. Chat messages are visible only to the people in the conversation, and posts in a private community only to its members. When you apply to a job, your application is shared with the organization that posted it.

4. Services that process data for us

We rely on a small number of providers to run the site. They process data only to provide their service to us:

  • DigitalOcean: hosts the web server.
  • Supabase: hosts the database and uploaded images.
  • Anthropic (Claude): when AI features are enabled, receives the text of questions and answers to produce diagnoses, translations and answer drafts.
  • Voyage AI: receives the text of posts and searches to build the semantic search index.
  • Our email delivery provider: sends account and notification emails.
  • GitHub: if you add a GitHub username, we fetch your public GitHub profile and repositories from GitHub's public API.

Some of these providers are located in the United States, so your data may be processed there.

5. Cookies

We use only the cookies needed for the site to work, mainly the cookie that keeps you signed in. We do not use analytics or advertising cookies. Sponsored listings are served by our own server; we count how often they are shown and clicked, without tracking you across other sites.

6. How long we keep data

We keep your account information for as long as your account exists. Security and moderation logs are kept as long as needed to protect the community.

If you delete your account, we delete your personal information. Public posts that other people have answered or built on may remain on the site so discussions stay readable, but they will no longer be linked to you.

7. Your choices and rights

You can view and update your profile at any time in your settings, and delete your account yourself under Settings → Profile → Delete account. To get a copy of your data or correct something you cannot edit yourself, email us at contact@devayiti.com. We will answer within 30 days.

8. Security

The site is served over HTTPS, passwords are hashed, and access to the database is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.

9. Children

Devayiti is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

10. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will also notify registered users.
